Archiving Boot Disks

Once you have a set of working boot disks, you will want to make them easily available to you all the time. It is not usually practical to carry a set of boot disks with you all the time, but there is an easy way to create one any time you need one.

Using the standard boot disk creation tools that are included with the imaging software can be simple, but requires an installation of the software. This isn't always possible in a remote location, with a computer that may not be fully functional.

Use a program like one of the following to archive your floppies

WinImage - http://www.winimage.com - (included in the PQPD Suite as VF Editor)

DXP - http://www.bmtmicro.com/BMTCatalog/multipleos/dexpress.html

FloppyImage - http://www.rundegren.com/software/floppyimage

Create a copy of a working boot disk, and save this new archive on your server with the images. Each program uses some imaging of its own to create an image of a floppy disk, and saves the whole disk as one file. It is even possible to convert a floppy image into an executable, so double-clicking the file name runs a program that creates the floppy disk for you.
