In the mid-1980s, the TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association) and the EIA (Electronic Industries Association) developed standards for cabling buildings. In 1991, the TIA/EIA released the TIA/EIA 568A Commercial Building Telecommunication Cabling standard. This is the single most used wiring standard in the world.
Below is a diagram showing the distance limitations specified in 568A.
