Routing

The University of Findlay's College of Education

Windows 2000 has Routing built into the operating system. Routing will handle network address translation (NAT). To setup NAT start the Routing and Remote Control MMC.

Start/Program/Administrative Tools/Routing and Remote Control

Right click the server and select Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access.

Click NEXT.

Select Manually Configured Server.

Click FINISH.

Click YES to start the service.

Wait...

To setup NAT, right click on GENERAL under IP Routing. Select Net Routing Protocol.

Click Network Address Translation.

NAT will now appear as a protocol, but no interfaces are automatically installed. These interfaces must be installed and configured manually.

Right Click NAT and select New Interface.

Select the network adaptor that will be on the client side of the firewall (the side with all your schools computers).

Select Private Interface.

Repeat the process.

Select the other network adapter.

This will be the network card that has access to the outside (the Internet). Click the Public Interface.

The service is ready to go. Point your client computers to this new gateway.
