Efficiency Tip #30 – Pay at the Pump

Pay At PumpIt takes approximately three minutes to go into a gas station and pay for gas.  The same transaction at the pump takes only ten seconds.  If you fill the tank just once a week, paying at the pump will save you almost two and a half hours of time each year.  More importantly, it will save you time standing in a gas station (not the best place to pass your time away).

With the price of gas going through the roof, you may need the extra time working a second job.

A good tip, to be sure, and one I use often, but I was expecting these tips to be computer ones! Yes, I did go back and read the original post, and it no where does it say you were specifically limiting yourself to computer tips, but this does make me wonder if you are starting to run out of tips!

This tip came to be after a dinner conversation last night. A member of the family was stuck waiting to pay inside a gas station for more than ten minutes. I had already completed the research on the time savings for this one… so I shared it.

Don’t worry. I have plenty of computer tips left.

I appreciate the tip, but I’ve been thinking about how you figured the time cost, which has resulted in a lower net time increase for me by only a few minutes. Perhaps, you should insert an algorithm which takes this into account (say–based on ACT scores lower than 29?) and decrease incrementally with each lower score. I think you’ll find any score lower than a 19 ends up waiting in gas lines for 15 or more minutes.

PS–Was that you in line for 10 mins. paying for gas? ::wink::
