PKZIP is alive and well.  The solution is multi-platform and has a very strong presence in data centers on mainframes and midrange systems.  

Your comment, &quot;Not many people use the original PKZip any more.&quot; is really geared toward consumers.  The PKWARE company has continued to update the .zip file format and more recently added strong encryption in the form of SecureZIP.
