Give your files names that mean something.\u00a0 If you are creating a resume for a Google job, name it “Resume for Google job.doc”.<\/p>\n
Downloading files is another story.\u00a0 Depending on your browser and how you have things setup, it may automatically save downloaded files to an obscure location like<\/p>\n
C:\\Documents and Settings\\username\\Local Settings\\Temp\\{00CF420F-4511-461E-BD60-D835BD4D2698}<\/p>\n
where you will never find it.<\/p>\n
Never click “Save” until you are certain the location is OK for your file.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
I have talked before about organizing documents in folders<\/a>.\u00a0 I have a similar strategy for downloading files.\u00a0 I have a folder called “download” on my hard drive.\u00a0 Everything goes\u00a0in there.\u00a0 Some downloads get a sub-folder.\u00a0 I have a folder called WordPress which holds all the updates for my blog software as well as any new themes\u00a0and plugins.<\/p>\n
Computers are poor at anticipating how we want to manage our information.\u00a0 Don’t let the computer make the important decisions.\u00a0 Be intentional when you save files.\u00a0 This will increase\u00a0your probability of finding\u00a0the files later.<\/p>\n
