{"id":379,"date":"2007-08-18T22:58:59","date_gmt":"2007-08-19T03:58:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/08\/18\/vistativo\/"},"modified":"2007-08-20T18:09:25","modified_gmt":"2007-08-20T23:09:25","slug":"vistativo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/08\/18\/vistativo\/","title":{"rendered":"Vistativo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have had a TV tuner card for\u00a0many years.\u00a0 \u00a0I have used it as a streaming TV server that I created using the tuner card and Microsoft <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windows\/windowsmedia\/forpros\/encoder\/default.mspx\">Media Encoder<\/a>.\u00a0 The TV signal comes into the computer with the tuner and Media Encoder streams the encoded signal out to any PC on my network.\u00a0 It works great, but I don&#8217;t use it that much.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t watch that much TV period.\u00a0 Then I do it is something on the History Channel.\u00a0 Using the system as a homemade Tivo was doable, but required a fair amount of manual interaction any time I wanted to record something.\u00a0 First I had find out when the show would be on.\u00a0 I do not get TV guide, so that wasn&#8217;t always easy.\u00a0 I had to manually put in the date and start time followed by the duration of the recording.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/hsmusical2.png\" alt=\"hsmusical2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Vista&#8217;s Media Center changes all that.\u00a0 I popped the TV card into a Vista machine.\u00a0 The OS asked for my cable provider.\u00a0 Based on my zip code it figured out all the channels I get.\u00a0 Periodically it goes across the Internet and gets an updated schedule.\u00a0 At any time it has about ten days worth of scheduling data.\u00a0 I can scroll through and select something to watch.\u00a0 If the show isn&#8217;t on at the moment, it asks if I want to schedule it to be recorded.\u00a0 If the show is a series, it asks if I want to record the whole series.\u00a0 Really cool.<\/p>\n<p>All this is built into Vista&#8217;s Media Center and costs nothing extra to use if you have a TV tuner card.<\/p>\n<p>All the recorded content can be viewed from other computers as well.\u00a0 You do have to watch the hard drive space.\u00a0 One hour of video\u00a0takes up\u00a0about 4 GB of disk space.\u00a0 You can archive recorded TV on a DVD or CD, but that takes time and planning.<\/p>\n<p>I still don&#8217;t watch that much TV, but it is nice to have the convenience of making a digital copy whenever something as big as High School Musical 2 hits the Disney Channel&#8230; at least the kids think so.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have had a TV tuner card for\u00a0many years.\u00a0 \u00a0I have used it as a streaming TV server that I created using the tuner card and Microsoft Media Encoder.\u00a0 The TV signal comes into the computer with the tuner and &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/08\/18\/vistativo\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1,3],"tags":[336,2],"class_list":["post-379","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-edtech","category-leisure","tag-edtech","tag-technology"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/379","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=379"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/379\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=379"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=379"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=379"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
