{"id":382,"date":"2007-08-20T22:15:13","date_gmt":"2007-08-21T03:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/08\/20\/modern-text-book\/"},"modified":"2007-08-20T22:15:13","modified_gmt":"2007-08-21T03:15:13","slug":"modern-text-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/08\/20\/modern-text-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Modern Text Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/100\/279871755_5df22bd1e5_m.jpg\" height=\"160\" style=\"width: 240px; height: 160px\" \/>I am looking through a half dozen recent textbooks for information on newer technologies.\u00a0 The oldest text in my pile is two years old.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some interesting technologies that I&#8217;m having a hard time finding.\u00a0 Half the books do not have &#8220;blogs&#8221; listed.\u00a0 The other three texts have single paragraph listings that define blogs as a &#8220;personal journal.&#8221; Only one book mentions that blogs can be used as a two-way communication tool.<\/p>\n<p>Only one book has &#8220;wiki&#8221; listed.\u00a0 That particular text gives an excellent definition and examples of how wikis can be used in an educational environment.\u00a0 Unfortunately, five of the books do not even mention the term.<\/p>\n<p>Comparing these books with texts I have from the nineties is almost comical.\u00a0 One of the books goes on and on about &#8220;gopher&#8221; and &#8220;archie&#8221; and how each can be used in education.\u00a0 There is\u00a0no mention of Google.<\/p>\n<p>What will our textbooks be talking about in five more years?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am looking through a half dozen recent textbooks for information on newer technologies.\u00a0 The oldest text in my pile is two years old.
