{"id":400,"date":"2007-09-01T21:43:34","date_gmt":"2007-09-02T02:43:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/09\/01\/google-earth-simulator\/"},"modified":"2007-09-01T21:43:50","modified_gmt":"2007-09-02T02:43:50","slug":"google-earth-simulator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/09\/01\/google-earth-simulator\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Earth Simulator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"205\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1265\/1292137894_30c23297ce_m.jpg\" height=\"240\" style=\"width: 205px; height: 240px\" \/>If you use <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/earth.google.com\">Google Earth<\/a> and also have an interest in flight simulators, check out the built-in sim.\u00a0 Open Google Earth and press Ctrl-Alt-A.<\/p>\n<p>This will pop up a window asking if you wish to fly an F-16 jet fighter or an SR-22 propeller powered plane.\u00a0 The keyboard controls are available <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/earth.google.com\/intl\/en\/userguide\/v4\/flightsim\/index.html\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 The sim worked with my flight stick.\u00a0 There were no rudder or throttle controls, but basic flight stick\u00a0(left\/right, up\/down) worked.<\/p>\n<p>The simulator is very basic.\u00a0 The draw is the scenery.\u00a0 You fly over real satellite images.\u00a0\u00a0 The resolution is the same as that in the normal Google Earth program.\u00a0 Altitude data\u00a0provides mountains and valleys.\u00a0 If you turn on 3D images, added buildings also show up on the terrain.<\/p>\n<p>I could see this as a useful &#8220;training&#8221; program for a real pilot wanting to get a look at an approach at an airport not visited before.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you use Google Earth and also have an interest in flight simulators, check out the built-in sim.\u00a0 Open Google Earth and press Ctrl-Alt-A.
