{"id":514,"date":"2007-12-02T23:30:23","date_gmt":"2007-12-03T04:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/12\/02\/bcs-problem-solved\/"},"modified":"2007-12-03T17:08:05","modified_gmt":"2007-12-03T22:08:05","slug":"bcs-problem-solved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/12\/02\/bcs-problem-solved\/","title":{"rendered":"BCS Problem Solved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/116\/313634606_4e19a4e0b8_m.jpg\" height=\"214\" style=\"width: 240px; height: 214px\" \/>Like most people in Ohio, I was glued to the TV tonight to find out who the Buckeyes would play in the championship game.\u00a0 With Fox dragging out the announcement of each of the four BCS games, we were talking about how important a playoff would be.<\/p>\n<p>It is hilarious to hear the different sports commentators talk about the failing BCS system, but that a playoff will never happen.\u00a0 I heard no less than ten different announcers say, &#8220;it is not going to happen for an assortment of reasons.&#8221;\u00a0 There is only one reason it will not happen: <strong>money<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The individual bowl games make a ton of money for the individual sponsors.\u00a0 We will have these bowls forever because everyone makes a lot of money.\u00a0 I heard that the Big Ten lost $4.5 million after Illinois beat Ohio State and it was assumed that the Big Ten would only send one team to a BCS bowl.\u00a0 That&#8217;s one team&#8217;s share for playing in the game.\u00a0 Imagine what the sponsors are making.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a way to keep what we have, yet have a playoff for the championship.\u00a0 Take the top four teams and have their bowl games count as the semifinal round of the playoff.\u00a0 These two bowls could be the Rose and Orange or the Fiesta and Sugar&#8230; it doesn&#8217;t really matter.\u00a0 We only need to make sure that the top four teams play in the these two bowls.\u00a0 The winners play the next week in the championship.<\/p>\n<p>Last year they added the extra game at the site of the championship.\u00a0 Did anyone else notice that Georgia and Hawaii are playing in this year&#8217;s Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on January 1.\u00a0 Then, one week later, the BCS Championship is at the same location.\u00a0 They did this last year with the Fiesta Bowl and then the BCS Championship.\u00a0 Two years ago, is was Texas winning the Rose Bowl, not the BCS Championship game.<\/p>\n<p>I think we can pick four teams with a lot less controversy than picking two teams.\u00a0 As an added bonus, the champion would have to win in back to back weeks.\u00a0 That is something a real championship team can do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like most people in Ohio, I was glued to the TV tonight to find out who the Buckeyes would play in the championship game.\u00a0 With Fox dragging out the announcement of each of the four BCS games, we were talking &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/12\/02\/bcs-problem-solved\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[76,58],"class_list":["post-514","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-leisure","tag-bcs","tag-football"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/514","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=514"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/514\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=514"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=514"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=514"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
