{"id":521,"date":"2007-12-08T21:14:13","date_gmt":"2007-12-09T02:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/12\/08\/flickr-maps-change-not-for-the-better\/"},"modified":"2007-12-10T22:15:44","modified_gmt":"2007-12-11T03:15:44","slug":"flickr-maps-change-not-for-the-better","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2007\/12\/08\/flickr-maps-change-not-for-the-better\/","title":{"rendered":"Flickr Maps Change&#8230; not for the better"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"180\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/87\/212461139_253972de94_m.jpg\" height=\"240\" style=\"width: 180px; height: 240px\" \/>If you have watched the growth of photos tagged with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/map\/?&amp;q=remarkableohio&amp;fLat=40.093395&amp;fLon=-82.935791&amp;zl=11\">remarkableohio<\/a> on the Flickr map, you should have noticed a fundamental change in the way it works.<\/p>\n<p>My\u00a0original plan was to have one page that showed every marker tagged with &#8220;remarkableohio&#8221;.\u00a0 Now you get a listing at the bottom that says there are 277 pictures, but only about thirty red dots show up on the map.\u00a0 It takes a lot of work to see the rest of those dots.<\/p>\n<p>I thought zooming in on an area would show all the markers in that area.\u00a0 This is not the case.\u00a0 From the full <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/map\/?&amp;q=remarkableohio&amp;fLat=40.093395&amp;fLon=-82.935791&amp;zl=11\">Ohio<\/a> map, I zoomed into the Findlay area.\u00a0 I stopped when Hancock County filled the screen.\u00a0 I waited for the red dots to show up.\u00a0 I waited a long time.\u00a0 Nothing happened.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, no markers showed up in Hancock County.\u00a0 This is about as bad as it can get.\u00a0 I have specified a tag with at least\u00a0fifty hits around the\u00a0county where I live and none of the markers are on the map.\u00a0 To get those markers at this new zoom level, I have to do a completely new search by clicking &#8220;Search the map&#8221; and then TYPING my tag.\u00a0 Flickr doesn&#8217;t even remember that I have already typed the tag on the previous page.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After a new search, Flickr says there are 54 matches but still only shows about half of those markers.\u00a0 If you want to see all the markers, you must zoom into a specific area and TYPE another search.\u00a0 I zoomed into downtown Findlay, TYPED a new search and still don&#8217;t see almost half of the markers in the downtown area.<\/p>\n<p>Way to take a killer application and cripple it, Flickr.\u00a0 Why isn&#8217;t there a button that says &#8220;Show all markers&#8221;???<\/p>\n<p>Also, why did the scroll mouse zoom go away?\u00a0 I used it all the time.\u00a0 Now it&#8217;s gone.<\/p>\n<p>Please give me my old Flickr map back!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have watched the growth of photos tagged with remarkableohio on the Flickr map, you should have noticed a fundamental change in the way it works.
