{"id":565,"date":"2008-01-10T22:24:10","date_gmt":"2008-01-11T03:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2008\/01\/10\/copyright-in-2028\/"},"modified":"2008-01-10T22:24:10","modified_gmt":"2008-01-11T03:24:10","slug":"copyright-in-2028","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2008\/01\/10\/copyright-in-2028\/","title":{"rendered":"Copyright in 2028"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2143\/2053083773_02faab404e_m.jpg\" height=\"180\" style=\"width: 240px; height: 180px\" \/><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/pogue.blogs.nytimes.com\/2007\/12\/20\/the-generational-divide-in-copyright-morality\/\">David Pogue<\/a> has an article about copyright and the views of different generations.\u00a0 He poses a list of questions about copying movies or music and asks audience members to raise a hand if the they think the act is wrong.<\/p>\n<p>He starts with &#8220;I borrow a CD from the library&#8221; and goes all the way to &#8220;I download a movie I don&#8217;t want to pay for&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He says in audiences with a mixture of age groups, he has more hands go up with each advancement toward the obvious &#8220;this is wrong&#8221; end.\u00a0 That was until he did this exercise with a group of 500 college students.\u00a0 No hands went up until the very last scenerio&#8230; and then only two hands were raised.<\/p>\n<p>I will try this one with a couple of my classes. Judging from remarks I have had in the past, I expect similar results.<\/p>\n<p>Pogue&#8217;s final question:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Right now, the customers who can\u2019t even *see* why file sharing might be wrong are still young. But 10, 20, 30 years from now, that crowd will be *everybody*.
