{"id":720,"date":"2008-09-02T21:57:12","date_gmt":"2008-09-03T02:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/?p=720"},"modified":"2008-09-05T06:23:37","modified_gmt":"2008-09-05T11:23:37","slug":"chrome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/2008\/09\/02\/chrome\/","title":{"rendered":"Chrome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"chrome\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/chrome.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"205\" align=\"right\" \/>Today, Google released their first web browser without much fanfare.\u00a0 It&#8217;s called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/chrome\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome<\/a> and it&#8217;s all new code.\u00a0 It&#8217;s very light.\u00a0 The download is only 475k.\u00a0 That is correct.\u00a0 A full-blow browser that is less than one half megabyte.<\/p>\n<p>I tried it in a few key applications that I must use on a daily basis.\u00a0 At the top of the list is Blackboard.\u00a0 Like most web applications, Blackboard uses a WYSIWYG editor which includes the common functions of a word processor (bold, italize, insert picture, etc).\u00a0 That&#8217;s gone in Chrome.\u00a0 Take a look at the difference.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Chrome Editor\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/chromepost.png\" border=\"1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chrome Editor<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Firefox Editor\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/firefoxpost.png\" border=\"1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Firefox Editor.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the difference is a big deal and one reason I won&#8217;t be switching to Chrome any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>There is one really cool thing about Chrome.\u00a0 It handles tabs in a completely different way.\u00a0 Instead of eating up valuable screen space below the URL and above the content of a web page (like every other browser I have used), Chrome places the tabs at the very top of the browser window.\u00a0 It is space that is already used by useless title of the page, so no screen real estate is lost.\u00a0 Clever.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"485\" height=\"132\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-724\" title=\"Chrome Tabs\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/chrometabs.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/chrometabs.png 485w, https:\/\/www.trustyetc.com\/trustyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/chrometabs-300x81.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, Google released their first web browser without much fanfare.\u00a0 It&#8217;s called Chrome and it&#8217;s all new code.\u00a0 It&#8217;s very light.\u00a0 The download is only 475k.\u00a0 That is correct.\u00a0 A full-blow browser that is less than one half megabyte.
